Do you have an accent?

I was born and raised (and still live in) North Carolina. I guess to some I have a Southern accent, but compared to some of the natives here, I have a very neutral accent with just a hint of Southern to it. I got my accent from my dad. Where my dad got his accent from is totally unknown--his parents have very strong Southern accents but he doesn't =)

  • I'm from Kentucky, I also have a southern accent, but it is probably different from your NC accent. Seems like accents just vary from place to place. I guess people just unknowingly begin talking like the people around them.

  • I'm in KY...& I'm a lil country girl thru & thru. BUT, I speak ea letter in a word & I don't add letters. Wash, for example is often pronounced "warsh" here. Kills me... So, to the KY natives, I often sound like I'm from somewhere else. BUT, to northerners in particular, I have a southern accent.

  • I am from Boston but just moved to SC, so to people here I have a heavy accent.

  • I guess being from Indiana I would have a Yankee accent. It's funny though, I live about 40 miles from the Kentucky border and as soon as you cross the river everyone has a definite Southern/Hillbilly accent. Not that Southerners are Hillbillies. I think I may be digging myself a hole here...

  • My grandma says "warsh" LOL! She also says "aig" instead of egg, and "chimbley" instead of chimney. So weird.

  • Everyone thinks I have a Boston accent even though I've lived in CT most of my life. I say carrot like, "cah-rot" and coffee like, "caw-fee." I dunno, its just how I speak!
