Do you ever feel bad when you buy new stuff, but your kid doesn't get anything new?

I'm thinking about for winter, getting flannel sheets and a new comforter, just to change it up. I feel bad because my son just has his comforter set-which I just ordered. I always feel like that when I get new stuff. Like when I go to Target for jeans or something, I feel like I have to get something new for my son.

  • My kids always get things new things before i buy anything for myself so no i don't feel bad. I hardly ever buy myself anything anyways so it's not a big deal.

  • In our house, kids come first. If there's money left afterwards, then we splurge on ourselves.

  • Sometimes, only when I've been overdoing it and shop alot for only me. But think of if you're actually not buying something he needs. I mean we don't wanna spoil them, it'll only get to their head. but WE know better, i think lol :P

  • If you feel that bad maybe give yourself the comforter, etc from "Santa" or as an early birthday present. Also, explain to your kids why it is nice to buy things for yourself. This will give them a sense of responsibility (allowance, etc).

I still feel guilty when I buy anything for myself. I felt bad about buying a candybar the other day... but i'm preg. and we're kinda' broke- stupid hormones!

  • nope only because they dont get new things, but they get things they already want like a new rented game or something, i dont buy things for them when im out shopping for myself. they need to learn budget meaning in my family. they get thier things but i get new shirts and stuff for myself once in a while so it means alot to me when i buy things for myself.

  • Not really the only new things I get are family things like dishes, business stuff like paper ink which brings in money, and bath and body products. I can't remember the last time I any thing new that was all mine and not a present. My clothes are all hammy down or used, I shop thrift stores for myself always. My children usually get every thing brand new. After all the always come first in 18 yrs I will have my time until then I'm second

  • my son always gets new stuff, so no, i never feel bad buying myself new things. i work, i take care of my family's needs, so i do feel like i deserve the things i buy for myself. the one thing i do feel bad about, is never getting SO new things. but, he is very plain, hates clutter, doesnt collect things, hates spending money. so, i find it pointless to buy someone something if they are gonna bitch about it:)

  • No. My children don't need new things every time they turn around. Personally I think that it's annoying when adults work their butts off and do without new anything while their kids get new things at every turn. Parenthood doesn't mean becoming a martyr.
