How do you get nail polish out of carpet?

I know, bad idea to start with ... we spilled DARK nail polish on light carpet. When we tried using nail polish remover on cotton balls, it did get some out, but there is a big smear. I stopped trying before making a bigger mess.
Any ideas?

  • nail polish remover? i would test it on a hidden area of the carpet first to make sure it doesnt discolor it but thats my best guess.

  • dawn with bleach... not a lot. On a cloth with warm water.... scrub it out, the bleach wont stain the carpet
