How much does a Marine get paid?

Well hubby wants to join the services for a while. I respect his choice but I wonder he we could support our family this way?

Currently he holds a good enough paying job with good insurance, but this is a dream of his so i'm ok. Although i'm a SAHM now.

*****What is the salary/pay?..what is provided (housing? insurance for family?)*****

Thank you

  • I really don't know where the Anon above gets that from because you didn't state his reasons..only that it was a dream of his. When you first joing the military as an enlisted man. Usually andE-1 unless he was in an JROTC program. E-1 with less than 2 yrs in make 1399.50 a month.. That is before taxes. It doesn't include housing allowances which depend on your duty station, or any other allowances. Here is a link to a pay scale.:

  • Anon :22 makes a really good point. It takes a special woman to be a great military wife. You are Mom and Dad a lot o the time. You keep home fires burning , support him in what he's doing and become a handyman. The pay sucks frankly. If it is about the money don't do it. Being a good military family is best described by Navy core values. "Honor, courage and committment" . It was a hard life with lots of sacrifices. But I wouldn't change it for the world. My husband retired after 30 yrs in the has been a difficult adjustment for us both. Good Luck to you.

  • omg, i was only curious as to how much military get paid. I dont like the military, but admire the men and women that serve and imo are severly underpaid, no matter how high the salary. i wish you and your family the best.

  • You're not an E-1 forever, pay increases. You're also not deployed all the time or for that long in the Corps. Live off base, you'll make more $$ if you find somewhere reasonable to live & don't live outside your means as far as, don't have 2 car payments & blow money all the time on stupid stuff.
