Mass. terror suspect taught kids at Muslim school

By DENISE LAVOIE
AP Legal Affairs Writer

BOSTON (AP) -- The Massachusetts man charged with conspiring in a terror plot has been a middle school math and religion teacher at a Muslim school in Worcester.

Colleagues at the Alhuda Academy say they cannot believe the allegations against Tarek Mehanna (TEH'-rek meh-HAH'-nah), who was arrested Wednesday and charged in conspiring to support terrorism. They say he was a sweet guy and loved by his students.

  • Anon, The pure fact that a suspected terrorist is in ANY school system is scarey! I am sure there are Muslim parents who send their kids to this school that are in shock and disappointment right now. It is guys like this who give the culture as a whole a bad reputation. And YOU anon wipe it off as because he was in a Muslim school, it doesn't matter? Seriously? Pathetic.

  • IME, where there is smoke - there's fire. Although he hasn't been found guilty of anything YET, he has been charged and that usually doesn't happen without evidence to support the charge. Just sayin'.

And why would we talk about sex offenders and pedophiles in a question about terror suspects?  They are not the same.  If you want to talk about those things, start a new question.

  • Heck, I don't care if the guy worked at the local dry cleaners or shod horses for a living. It's still scary to think potential terrorists are out there.

  • Anon, these ladies serve as judge and jury all the time, the presumed innocent until proven guilty doesn't enter their minds.
