  • My mom used to leave me alone with my younger brother when I was eight. As my kids are too small to even think about it, I don't know, but 10 or 12 sounds good to me. I think it depends on the child, too, though.

  • state laws differ the majority we've lived in saw at least 12. Not every 12 yr old is ready though. Use your best judgement

  • We let our 10 year old stay home for short periods of time, during schol he is home with his little sister, she's 7, but they are home alone for a max of 45 min. Otherwise they go everywhere we do.

  • I've wondered about this too. We have an 11 and 9 year old. We go to the grocery store and will leave them alone but beyond that they usually go with us... sometimes we make a home depot run and leave them there so they don't have to sit with the mulch.

I wonder about leaving them for hours by themselves though. Sometimes we go places they just don't enjoy.. football games whe it's hot outside.. I wonder they are getting to the point where we should give them the option of going or staying. We don't have to worry about them destroying the house. They are good girls.

  • The LAW says NO younger than 12 to be left alone unsupervised.

  • Those who say the law says 12 are WRONG. Different states have different laws. Check your facts before you post.
