Thats so not cool. I would talk to the teacher. Maybe taking 5 minutes of his play time would have been okay, but not the whole thing!!! Thats just cruel! As a former teacher to kindergardeners, I would NEVER have done something like that!

that is so wrong you should go to the principal about it. My son starts kindergarten next week. I hope he does not go thru that and i'm sorry your son had to go thru that.

Now a days they are giving so much homework and so much responsibilty to children! My sister is in the 2nd grade and comes home with at least 3 pages of homework. My brother is in the 4th grade and comes home with at least 5 pages of homework. It is ridiculous! Its like theyre trying to make kids grow up faster. They are not letting kids be kids. Having homework in kindergarten is outrageous. Taking away a whole recess for not doing homework is outrageous too! I dont think talking to anyone is gonna do it. Maybe you should get up ALOT of angry parents and go to the legislator. Its a nation wide 'epidimic' i guess you could call it. Just going to the principal will probably not do anything because its not just happening in your state. Its freakin' everywhere and its dumb!

My granddaughter has homework in Kindergarten. The rules up front stated if they don't finish class work they must finish it at recess. If it takes the whole recess thats what happens. I personally don't have an issue with it. THey are expected to start Kindergarten now knowing and doing the stuff my own kids were taught at school in first grade. It's a fast crazy world. The sooner they learn rules are rules the better.

Some homework is fine but it should be fairly simple and take no more than a half an hour and should not be every night.
I know kindergarten has gotten a lot harder BUT educators are also finding that kids are now sick of school by 3rd grade. 20 years ago, kids didn't burn out until junior high or early high school! Now, parents have to force a kid to go to school for over a decade. Talk to the school. Yes, a good education is critical to his future. Yes, he has to learn to follow the rules. Yes, if he hates school and dreads going, he will fail. He's FIVE.

Tons of homework and strict rules ARE the reason for kids not wanting to go to school and hating it. I didnt have homework at all until i was in 6th grade. And even then, it wasnt not alot. Heck, i didnt have as much homework in high school as kids do now a days.

My son had homework in kindergarten. The schools have no idea what they are doing to these kids. They said homework should take 20 minutes; it generally took us an hour. Half the stuff they sent home, had never been done in class, so I had to teach my son the lesson before he could do the homework.
They would make then stay in at recess if classwork wasn't finished. I don't agree with it, but with the NCLB, it doesn't matter what parents think anymore. It's all about teaching the kids the stupid stuff on a stupid test to try to prove a point and who cares if the kids actually learn anything, as long as they memorize and regurgitate on the test?
