Is this a healthy lunch or a lunch that seems healthy but probably isnt?

Mac and cheese (made with butter & whole milk) and peas with juicy juice to drink.

  • If you MUST have macaroni and cheese, you should make it homemade using 2% milk Cheddar cheese, 100% whole grain macaroni, and skim milk. But even then it is not very healthy because of the amount of cheese necessary. The peas are good if they are fresh or frozen (canned is ok but has way more sodium than necessary), and if the juicy juice at lunch is the only time a child has juice (one 6-8 oz serving of 100% juice per day) then it is fine. If not, give skim or 2% milk to drink. Add in a fresh fruit (any fresh fruit) in place of the juice and you are better off. • Healthier to make it with veleeta, whole wheat noodles, skim milk with peas and milk to drink...juicy juice has a lot of natural sweeteners.

  • Not healthy. High in fat. Kids are supposed to ration juice and drink water. The mac is not whole grain.

Real cheese is a hell of a lot healthier than velveeta!
