Anyone have a child with dermographism or 'skin writing'?

Dermographism is a skin disorder where the body produces histamines when the skin is lightly rubbed or scratched, producing welts and severe redness where scratched. This isnt a normal amount of redness, and doesnt require much touch to cause a reaction.
This is a possible diagnosis for my son, so im trying to hear some stories from some moms.

  • Hi,

I've been living with this for more than 6 years now and have learnt to live with it and also control it.

I can sure help you, most of time this is caused some antibiotics side effect and thus it flares for little or no reason at all.

About 5% of the worlds population has this pro and there is no cure found yet. There are a load of pills that could be prescribed but there's always some side effect, hence try some home remedies.

Find out the type of food that causes this; mine is sugar, oily stuff, too spicy food, preservatives, packed food, fructose, sweet foods/ fruits and no coke no colas.

Now these are mostly unhealthy stuff so can be avoided except for fruits which can be sacrificed for some health gain.

Try to detox you child by putting him on a vegetable juice, simple soup for just two days. Now I know that's not possible so we could try some sauna bath this will remove all the toxins inside out

  • there are a variety of detox methods using mud pack, bath in Epsom salt in luke warm water, oil massage etc

Avoid hot water bath complete, use a soft towel, only cotton clothes and no tight clothes so the skin could breath and apply some nice aloe vera body lotion. When ever there is a rash just apply some normal water and it will cool down.

Vegetable juice is the best cause it has all the nutrients minus the sugar. Try Carrot, beetroot, pumpkin, spinach juice etc.

And yes no or less salt, even this can be used to detox your child, initially it will be very weird but later it becomes tasty.

I would say consult a dietitian for a complete salt, sugar, spicy free diet and the results can be seen in a week.

Last but not least keep your child happy as much as possible cause stress even in small amounts is too much for a child.

Usually it disappears suddenly, a diet like this for six months to a year will help.
