Obamacare Would Invite One in Five Americans Into Medicaid ?

NEW YORK -- New research predicts that Obamacare will swell America’s Medicaid population by nearly 16 million individuals. This proposed legislation would welcome nearly one in five Americans into government-run medical welfare. Between 2010 and 2019, the Congressional Budget Office estimates, this single provision would increase state outlays by $33 billion and accelerate federal spending by $345 billion.

Interestingly enough, when the Heritage Foundation documented how Medicaid populations would grow in all 50 states, this phenomenon was most pronounced in Nevada and Montana, the respective homes of Democrat Leader Harry Reid and Finance Chairman Max Baucus, the Senate’s two loudest ObamaCare advocates.

  • Obamacare’s parameters would boost the average state’s Medicaid-eligible population by 36.6 percent. Americans on Medicaid would jump 15.9 million -- from 43.5 million to 59.4 million. The 14.5 percent on the nation on Medicaid today would climb to 19.9 percent.

  • Medicaid has the lowest rate of reimbursement of any kind of program, half of commercial insurance and lower the Medicare, Tricare, and Indian Health Services. Having 1 in 5 Americans on Medicaid will bankrupt many doctors and hospitals.

I foresee doctors limiting the amount of Medicaid patients they are willing to take. It's already happening in my area.

  • That sounds like a really stupid thing to do. It further shows how this is not about access for all to have good healthcare. That could easily be achieved by a series of regulations on the insurance industry, allowing people to buy insurance across state lines and tort reform. Giving incentives and even tax breaks to those who do live a healthy lifestyle would help as well. We pay out the nose for our "cadillac plan" we are healthy and take care of ourselves. My husbands coworker pays the same as we do for the exact same plan. Him and his obese family are at the doctor non stop. We only go for check ups why should we pay the same? We should get a break for not being a drain on the medical system.

  • This is exactly what they wanted to happen. Fully socialized medicine so nobody is getting premier care. So if you have cancer or any other catastrophic disease - forget it - eugenics people. We have the POTENTIAL in this country to get the best care in the world - but unless everyone (there's that equality - spread the wealth thingy again) has access to equal care - they won't have any of it. So yes, now we will all have equally crappy care...welcome to SOCIALISM.

  • He doesn't care. He has this all planned out. The plan doesn't kick in until 2013. Two things will be true 1.) he will not be in office or 2.) he will be a "lame duck" president who can't be reelected anyway. If it doesn't become a reality until '13, why the rush. Oh, I know!!! He has to beat the mid term elections while he stills enjoys the WH and the Congress. After this round of elections with all that has happened since his election, his golden opportunity will be gone and the time would have passed him by.
