  • Girl, I have no idea how to make it, but I saw something at the local bakery the other day that sounded wonderful! It was a pumpkin bread pudding with a praline frosting type sauce that was poured over the top!! Yummy.

  • Ask your hosts. They might be pleased to have you take over a vegetable or to add to the desserts or a bottle of wine or a batch of rolls. If you have a specialty, ask if that would work.

  • When people ask me what to bring, I usually suggest a dessert. I figure you can never have too many desserts. Unless they have a specialty such as a yummy sweet potato casserole. Or something that is time consuming- such as a tossed salad.

Here is a recipe for pumpkin bread pudding with praline sauce. I just bought a container of what seems to be something similar at the grocery store, haven't tried it yet. :)

  • Thats a tough one because sometimes hosts get annoyed if you bring something that overshadows something they made. I spent hours making a meringue pie once that was my specialty and my friend brought over a store bought cheesecake and I felt a little annoyed by it because some people ate it instead. I know she never would've considered that.
I'd say something like mulled cider is a good addition. Ask her. She'll tell you what to bring! Or something unique no one else will bring is always good. She might just want you to bring your punch bowl or something not edible too!

  • Personally, I love any help preparing a big meal. I think I'm a pretty good cook, but I know many of my friends are great cooks, or at have dishes that they make really well. If they offer, I'll ask them to bring something I know they make well, or enjoy making. I usually call the host & ask what I can bring.... if they say nothing, I generally insist because I know a lot of people say " nothing, just yourself" to be polite. I'll ask if they need a side dish, vegetable, salad or desert, or maybe if they'd like me to bring bread or drinks. I've never been turned down when I insist, & in fact, most of my friends & family know that I want to contribute, & will ask me for their favorite dish that I make.

I like taking au gratin potatoes, or easier, hashbrown casserole. For a vegetable I might take broccoli in a cheese sauce, salad- ramen noodle salad, I have a long list. I'm sure your contribution will be appreciated!
