the group b strep test??? i have questions

did it hurt?? were you uncomfortable? did you find out any other information from the exam?

  • Um no. Not at all. All they do is take a cotton swab and rub it on the outside of your anus.

  • No, it doesn't hurt, nor is it uncomfortable. All they do is take a big q-tip-like swab and rub it along the vaginal and anal openings. That's it. Some doctors might do a vaginal exam at the same time, but that depends on the doctor. The actual GBS test, though, is nothing. If you have a vaginal exam as well, you might find out if you're dilated or effaced at all (which means nothing); if you don't, then you won't find anything else out.

  • I had my test done a week ago today. I didn't even feel her do the back, I'm thinkin she done it at the same time and it was over in a few seconds. Not uncomfortable at all.

  • it didn't hurt at all. very simple.

    what i do wish i knew was that the course of treatment often recommended doesn't actually help much, and actually can do more harm than good. so you might want to do some research about that, and how to prevent coming up positive for GBS. :) good luck!
