DNA testing

Has anyone ever had or heard of anyone having the DNA test be wrong?

  • As long as the lab can prove chain of custody from the time of the swab or blood draw until the testing began it shouldn't be a problem. If someone gets sloppy with chain of custody mistakes can certainly happen. If you are sure they tested the correct sample DNA testing is profoundly accurate. That is why it is allowed in courts as evidence.

  • Yeah unless there was some sort of tampering on mix up of the samples then it is very accurate. I have NEVER heard of people being tested twice and getting different results if that is what you mean. I have know several people who were tested twice (did self test at home and later a court ordered one).

  • I have never heard of anyone getting different results from 2 different tests but there was a guy on Dr. Phil a while ago who was trying to get publicity for fathers' rights who said that 33,000 paternity tests come back as as false positive every year. That may be a relatively low number for the total number of DNA tests done per year but it is a thought. If you have doubts, get it done again. Just remember no matter how it turns out, a child deserves no less just because of who his/her parents are or are not.
