Baby Cereal

What type of cereal do you start a baby on; rice or oatmeal? And, at what age do you start it?

  • rice mixed with formula and about 4 to 41/2 months. Spoon only!

  • The AAP recommends no solids before four months if formula feeding, six months if breastfeeding. Rice cereal is usually recommended,but you don't HAVE to do cereal at all...mashed banana or avocado are great fist foods that actually taste good. Unlike too many infant cereals. **smile**

  • Rice, 6 months, from a spoon only, not in the bottle. It's only for practice, it has very little nutritional value, and you don't really HAVE to give it. Babies don't NEED it. Formula or breastmilk is supposed to be their main source of nutrition til their 1st birthday.

  • I started both my daughters with rice cereal at around 4 months. I mixed it with formula and they both did just fine.
