  • Boxes. If you call grocery stores and furniture stores, you can get boxes for free sometimes. If you are getting a moving company, make sure you call around. When we moved across state one quoted us $700 another $1300. They just moved us, not packed our stuff or anything like that. Budget for stops along the way since it's a drive. Tips for the drivers if you get a moving company.

  • wow. well, the first thing i can say is Texas will seem a relief to you after paying CA prices for so long. so that's a good thing. you can pretty much count on your grand total being about 50% more than what you budgeted. deposits, registrations, numerous trips to gas stations and fastfood places, property taxes on vehicle registrations, license fees, new school fees, i don't know how much you have to move or if you are moving yourself so that makes it harder.
bubble wrap, newspapers, boxes, rentals for furniture blankets in the truck, dolly rental fees, security deposits, any animal expenses like buying a crate or license, you'll have to fill a fridge when you get there with basics like ketchup mustard mayo, that gets really pricey. Rental on the truck and insurance on the contents. Moving is expensive!
