What to do when a boss becomes a friend & you lose both?

You take a job and are the manager. You grow to a friendship in your job. Where you will do extras for no pay. Then you start getting dumped on. Not paid. Do work for no pay. Keep hearing you'll be paid. Meanwhile you do your work with out pay! It ruins your life. Credit, strtains your marriage etc.. Meanwhile the boss & her DH are going through a Divorce. On his own behind his wife's back he charges like $100,000. Your boss is now filing bankruptcy. What can you do? You lose everything! Including loans and big items you were to be paid for once she can. All on a friendship honest manner! Now what? Its a betrrayal and a loss. Can anyone understand this? Or advise?

  • Contact the state department of labor; they will help you collect you back wages.

  • You can choose to be honest and admit to you and to her, that you let her take advantage of you, so you are in financially challenging times as well. If you are friends, you can work out how she can help you. She can give you an excellent reference, leads on jobs and contacts from her business etc. When you get those, go for negotiating how she can pay you back. You both screwed up. Assume you both can live and learn or do the above and then hit the road and don't look back! It will be a very hard experience that will make you wiser in the future.
