  • why did you do it if you don't even know the point?

i had it done without being asked first and only realized after the nurse said that i might lose my mucus plug after that that she might have stripped my membranes. maybe that is what happened to you...? there are risks including premature rupture of membranes.

for me, my labor started 4 days later, but i was also 41 weeks pregnant so i don't think it was the membrane stripping that did it but just my son decided he was ready to come :)

good luck. i would go ahead and call the OB/ midwife and tell them you are in a lot of pain because i was not in a lot of pain afterward. of course it could just be that i didn't have it done since i only thought i did afterward. gl!

  • btw i think it is horrible that OBs, nurses, midwives do this without first explaining the point and the risks.

there is some good info on cochrane collaborations website. it actually says that it can bring on labor and is preferable to other methods of induction.

  • ok same anon again, i meant preferable to other methods of induction with natural being the best. lol. i would only choose that if there was a medical need to be induced and i wanted to try that first.
