Is your experience with CSE meetings?

I am trying to get my son transitioned into some typical classes for music and reading. He is 5 and loves music, completely engaged. furthermore, reading his is at a 6 yr old level. My department seemed reluctant when I had an informal team meeting. My CSE meeting is on the 12th. Should I get a parent advocate? How many of you all use one? Should I bring one right away or see how the CSE meeting goes and if I can't get what I want for him, table the meeting so I can get an advocate?
