  • Bases in Columbia are just a waste of money. The drug trade continues unabated, so does corruption. And a samall number of already rich Columbians are laughing all the way to the banks as US taxpayers' money rolls into the country.

Cuba is harmless, China is not. But the US is indebted to China and not Cuba.

The lesson is that money talks, not commonsense. Ask the Wall Street gurus who got the US into its current awful economic mess.

  • Um, don't you as an individual choose who you will and won't do business with?

Our country (as a business and consumer) gets to make those choices too.

Although I admit I find Irony that we won't trade with Cuba, but will with Communist China and now Venezuela.

  • Venezuela elected Chavez, and they are a sovereign state.

We now have five US military bases in their neighboring country, Colombia.

I haven't heard of any of any Venezuelan military bases in Mexico or Canada.

  • Correction: The US has SEVEN military bases in Colombia.
I wonder if they feel any safer.
