Substitution..

I'm making brownies from scratch & the recipe calls for a cup of melted butter. I only have one stick on hand & don't feel like going to the store. Can I use a cup of vegetable oil instead?

  • yes, but you should use less because oil is thicker than butter and you don't want greasy brownies

  • you can also substitute apple sauce for all or half of the fat. it makes them very, very moist.

  • if you have apple sauce you can substitute equal amounts and cut the fat out altogether.
