Flu/Swine Flu question

Is the flu only contagious if the person who has it has a fever?

  • No the flu is contagious even if there is no fever present. A fever is just one of the symptoms of the flu.

  • I was told by my doctor and a few weeks later by my kids' pediatrician that the flu is contagious before a person even knows that they have it --- as in, before they are even showing any signs of being ill. They both also said that the flu is NOT contagious AFTER the fever is gone (without any medication) for 24 hours.

  • Everything I have read says that a person is contagious starting 1 day before onset of symptoms and continue to be for at least a week.
