Anyone familiar with the Book of Thoth?

English magician Aleister Crowley’s Book of Thoth incorporates the wisdom, philosophy, science and magick of Egypt, melding eastern and western mystery traditions to create the most complete method of studying the tarot and finding self-knowledge that there is in existence.

Anyone actually own or read this book? What do you think of Aleister Crowley? Was he insane? A pervert? The Devil?

  • We have it and the Thoth tarot deck. Our Thoth deck is from the 70s, so it is very rare and special. My SO is a member of the Golden Dawn, an esoteric Judeo-Christian society that practices magick. Like many members of the OTO, we celebrate astrological events, practice mediation, pray, believe in the work of angels on Earth, and view Christ as an allegory for overcoming mortality through the enlightenment brought by universal love.

The Book of Thoth is smart in that it is a very complete collection of esoteric teachings that have been mislaid. From a scholarly prospective, it's very fascinating.

I think Aleister Crowley was half marketing genius/ half cranky old man. Like how Marilyn Mason used the pop media to create a spending back-lash against conservatives. If you demonize it, people will pay anything for it.
