what are some ways to help the labor process?

what are some things that are said to help the labor process? whether youre not ready to go into labor yet but want to prepare to make labor smoother...or because youre tired of being pregnant and want to try to speed things up naturally (no meds).
ive heard there is a preasure point on the bottom of your foot. and i know nipple stumulation works for some. and ive heard that doing squats/lunges, or sitting in a squatting position might help.
and i know keegals helps when it comes times to delivery.

anyone else know of anything?

  • i think the best thing to do is read up on how to accomplish a natural birth, especially if you will be going to a hospital. another good thing related to that is to find out what kinds of stuff the hospital does. like do they allow you to move around freely, or do they make you get monitored all the time? do they make you get an IV? do they let you labor in the tub? stuff like that :) good luck !

  • keep moving. I did some pilates right before delivering really helped with the stretching and not being stiff. walk, use an exercise ball to roll around on (sit and rock around on it)

educate yourself for what the hospital's policies are is a great idea! most give tours or have classes where you can familiarize yourself.

drink lots of water and stay hydrated.

but most of all....STAY CALM! if you go in scared and worried then thats what you'll get. but if you go in happy and positive it will be easier mentally.
