the numbers on the bottom of plastics?

i'm confused about the number that is on the bottom of plastic containers. i've heard someone say it has to do with the recycling method and doesn't mean anything and someone else told me it's the type of plastic it is and there are "good" plastics and "bad" plastics. sometimes i reuse these containers for storing other things in the fridge... should i not be doing that? anyone know the real story?

  • You are not encouraged to re-use water bottles because the plastic that is used breaks down and contaminates what you are drinking. As far as re-using the butter container, just don't microwave these containers and don't put liquid into them. Some organic products will suggest that you re-use their containers. Just google safe plastic products to re-use.

  • You should not put any foods with fat in the plastic containers. The toxins leach into the fats...
