Military wives, girlfriends, moms...how much do you tip the bagger at the commissary?

I usually tip about $2 because honestly I can put my own groceries in the car and I know they work for tips, but I don't know if there's a standard on much you give?

  • I give them $2 if they push them to my car and $1 if they bag them at the 12 and under line and I take them. If I only have an item or two I do the self check out that way I don't have to tip anyone.

  • depends. If they talk with my kids and are friendly I pay 50 cents a bag. If their rude they get a dollar no matter how much I buy.

  • I'm a military brat, not a GI's wife , but growing up, my mom always gave them a buck, which was good money then. When I take her to the base now she gives them $5, but I usually can get the stuff into her car myself for her before they get over to her to help. She absolutley needs the assistance when I don't go with her, so she's generous--even for just a few bags.

  • Depends on how much I spend. If I spend under $150 I tip $3. Over $150 I usually tip $3-$4. On my Christmas trip I will usually tip $10. I know its alot- but its only once a year.

  • It usually depends on how much we buy. My dad was in the air force and when we made regular trips my mom would usually tip 2 or 3$. but since he's retired and they live about 4 hours from a base, they only go once or twice a year now to stock up.End up spending 400 or 500$ then we usually tip like 10$. I try to remind myself that the baggers ONLY make tips.

  • I normally have 2 carts that they have to take out. I tip $2.50 per cart. I spend about $300 per trip.

  • I never liked doing that, im cheap i dont care. all my money should be saved and we didnt have much after bills and food. plus you are allowed to push ur own cart to ur car and that is what i like doing but since we are back in the states from being in yuck germany for 2 years we go to real markets with real organic foods. we hate the commissary and i mean we as in husband and i.

  • I normally do anywhere from $3-5 depending on how much I buy and their attitude. I normally always get nice and appreciative ones though :)
