How much sun do you need each day? Can you get too much?

  • It depends on your skin tone. I am very fair, so I need 5 or 10 minutes or less of direct, midday sun to make all my vitimin D for the day. If your skin tone is darker then you'll need more. You can get too much sun... it's called a sunburn lol. But seriously, even if you don't burn, don't spend hours out in the sun. 20 or 30 minutes is about all anyone needs, regardless of your skin tone.

  • I read an article where Doctor's recommend 10 mins of unprotected (no sun screen) exposure a day (weather permitting) to get adequate amounts of vitamin D.
