How old is too old to have a baby??

I am just curious what the general oppinion is. My dh will be 50 in a couple years and I wll be 40. I think we are done but should it be a no-no for couples over a particular age?

  • Honestly I belive 35+ because if you're 40 when you have your first your kid will be 20 when your 60 so its like being rasied by grandparents not parents. but its all about what you can handle. :)

  • Personally, I think those doing it over 60 are INSANE. I had my last at 40 and now a few years later, I am WHIPPED. I spend most of my time tired and am NOT looking forward to him giving up his nap in the next few months.

Also consider that the older you are the higher the risk to the baby. That's not always something people can live with...having a special needs baby. (and yes,I realize it can happen to anyone at any age, but older moms are at higher risk for babies with genetic defects)

  • Personally, I thing women 35 and older should not be having babies. But that is just my opinion.

Men should not be having babies past 45 IMO.

  • When you reach menopause . . . that's when you're too old. Who are we to put a limit when nature already has?

  • After menopause is too old. I will say I would rather see a pregnant 50 year old who was a solid finacially, married and mentally ready than a 19 year old who doesn't even know who her childs father is like my sister.

  • Menopause is natures way of saying a woman is too old.  I do not agree with man made limits on pregnancy.

So Louise, my birth control failed. I will be 37 in December. Should I abort my baby?

  • After menopause.

I don't think there should be a limit.

  • Anon- of course u shouldn't abort your baby!!! I think after 40 is really pushing it unless you are in great shape.... after 40, maybe adopting would be better. but, whatever! As long as they provide and baby is healthy then it's not my business
