What causes your water to break?

  • Baby pushing through, tears it, or a weak spot.
    It usually happens late in labor, but can happen anytime, or never. Some women have it break without going into labor, some babies are born in the sac, intact.

  • Yep, what the previous poster said. Mine broke with my firstborn and I wasn't even in labor. Personally I think my son broke it! He was out of room. He was born 3 weeks early and was 23 inches long!

  • I've always wondered that. With my 1st born the dr broke my water and he was born 3 hrs later. With daughter my water broke exactly 9 hrs before she was even born. With my 3rd as soon as my water broke he was crowning and the nurse had to hold him in while we waiting for the dr to get there. I'm on my 4th now and curious as to how this one will go down lol
