I am having regular contractions....

About 5 minutes apart but they are not very painful. Last time I was in labor (pitocin-induced labor) they hurt like 5 times as much from the start...So how do I know if this is it? What should I do?
Please don't just tell me to call the doctor (I will soon) I would rather hear your experience/opinon.

  • Some women don't experience pain in labor at all. Pain level has nothing to do with how far along you are in your labor. Continue to time your contractions. If they are getting stronger, longer and closer together it's the real thing. If not, then your body is warming up. Chill out, eat something, particularly with calcium, take a shower and wait to see what develops :)

  • P.S. I have been losing my mucous plug little by little the past 3 days

  • for me, i would wait until i felt intense contractions every few minutes for an hour. everyone is different, but i feel the longer you stay at home, the less likely you are to have the hospital push unnecessary/risky interventions on you. :)

  • How many seconds does each one last? How long have they been this way?
Who is there to help you through?

  • I'm at work...I started feeling them about 2 hours ago and they were almost back to back right away...They are lasting about 40 seconds.
