What does the term irish twins mean?

I saw it on a couple of mom's profiles and was just wondering what it meant. I am going to post anon so I don't look like an idiot? lol

  • LOL, You don't look like an idiot. Irish twins are siblings who are born within a year. A lot of people don't know that! I only know because I saw a post once.

  • Oh I thought it was up to two years, mine are seventeen months apart and have been referred to as "Irish Twins"- you learn something new every day!

  • I always thought it was 2 born within a year but recently saw that it can be up to 18mo?!? My sister has irish twins (they are 10 1/2 mo apart) mine are referred to as irish twins but they are 17 mo apart.
