How long wouldyou marinate chicken breasts in Italian dressing before baking in the oven?

  • I like to marinate food as soon as i get it home from the store then freeze it with the marinate on it. gotta love freezer bags :)

  • I used to work as a professional cook. Chefs will tell you that meats will only absorb marinade about 1/4 inch into the skin and that is achieved in 20-30 minutes. After that, the acids in the marinade begin to break down the proteins and can cause mushiness.

    Tofu and tempeh can marinate for days. Veggies shoul not marinate beyond 1 hour or they can ferment or turn to mush.

  • You should only marinate chicken pieces for up to an hour because like the previous post said, the acids start to break down the meat and change the texture. If you want to do it for like 30 minutes to an hour, pierce the meat with a fork before marinating it.

  • I always try to do 24 hours, and I shake the container every 4 hours to make sure the marinade spreads equally!

  • I would say about 3 hours. 6 would be okay too. but not much longer than that. I have tried this and it is easy for the dressing to overpower the whole dish.

  • I would only for 30 minutes. Then i would bake them in the oven.
