Can difficulty swallowing be a symptom of hypothyroidism?

  • In it's very advanced stages, yes. Hypothyroidism causes the thyroid to swell if it's very severe. That can cause problems swallowing. Chances are good, though, that if you had hypothyroidism you would have known before that symptom manifested.

  • I had difficulty swallowing with HYPERthyroidism, I'm not sure if that is an effect of hypothyroidisim or not.
