Is it normal to have Braxton Hicks around 18-20 weeks?

I do not remember when i had them with my first two kids but i been feeling low back aches, and stomach cramps for a while now. i just turned 20 weeks today and last night i kept getting like spasms on my lower back. it would get tight and hurt. then the wave would hit around my lower stomach. Does this also mean woman go into labor earlier if they experience braxton hicks early into pregnancy?

  • My answer would be no. Generally BH are much later into the pregnancy - otherwise you should keep a close on your H2O intake to be sure you're not getting a little dehydrated.

  • those sound more like true contractions than bh. but even true contractions are ok if they're not in a pattern and not for more than 1 hour. bh contractions feel like tightness but not hurting

  • OP here, to me it hurts because i have back problems since i was in the 5th grade. I have a little curve of scoliosis. Maybe its because im not drinking enough water probably. My midwife comes down to see me at my house Nov 18th. so i will make sure to ask her then.

  • I've had 7 children and ive noticed braxton hicks start sooner and sooner for me everytime. It also may not be braxton hicks. Your uterus is in the process of stretching... can feel crampy and tight at times. I thin youre fine. Just ask your dr. to be safe.
    Good Luck and congratulations!
