Home birth after c section

uterine rupture.... worst case scenerio, right? so... then what? I die? Or have ____ minutes to get to an ER?

  • yes, worst case scenario, you would have a uterine rupture and risk your life and your childs...however, like PP said...the chances of that are very very very small. Most Doctors only do automatic C sections after you have already had one because there is legal risk. I have been researching the subject and read a testimonial from an OB who said that there would be more VBACS if mother's couldnt sue their Doctors for complications from them.
    I am pretty sure that you can get an ultrasound to test the thickness of your scar and help determine your risk.

  • Uterine rupture is an umbrella term. It happens less than 1% of the time, and when it does happen it is usually a small tear. Midwives are trained to spot signs of this happening and they would transfer you right away. You have a much better chance of having your uterus cut again if you go to the hospital than you have of having a uterine rupture at home with a midwife.
