Catholics, why do you say Mary was sinless?

Why do you say that Mary was sinless when the bible says that ALL have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God, Mary herself calls Jesus her savior- if she was sinless why would she need a savior? When people attempted to give Mary special praise, why would Jesus himself say:

“And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.” (Luke 11:27-28)

27As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you."

28He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

-I don't really see where it says Mary has sin

  • The Bible cleary says Mary is blessed.

    King James Bible

And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

  • Because she was.... This is an answer you would give a child. This is one of the big problems with religion. 'Because' is not an answer, it is lame.

  • Why do you say that Mary was sinless when the bible says that ALL have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God

If Christians accept the fact that Jesus was sinless and that He was fully Human then the statement “All have sinned” has at least one exception that all Christians agree upon - Jesus.  So So if there is one exception (Jesus) then why can there not be another exception? Mary.  Other exceptions - children below the age of reason.  By definition, they can't sin since sinning requires the ability to intend to sin.  So in this case "all" doesn't mean with no exceptions.  So the idea that Mary was born without original sin does not go against the bible.
