How does everybody store their books?

Hi all,
I have been storing my books on my book shelf but I've been noticing it's get hard to find a specific book that he wants. I don't want to get rid of any books but maybe someone has better storing/organizing ideas for me.

  • I store fiction separate from non-fiction. Non-fiction I store by categories. Fiction I have stored by mystery, science fiction, and general, and all alphabetized.

  • I have my boys' books on shelves and I (try) to have them organized. If there is a set of books they're together, board books are together, and if he has a favorite book or books I try to put them in a place where they would be easy to find.

  • Just on shelves. We having those shelving units that are divided into squares. I usually organize the books by series or type. My 3yo usually messes hers all up. Occasionally I do cull their books and take out ones that are battered beyond recognition, ones they have outgrown or ones that they don't look at often.

  • Bookshelves, organized by type (fantasy, sci-fi, cookbooks, how-to-guides, etc.) and then by author and series from there.
My son's books are organized roughly by size, so the little books aren't lost amongst the huge books.

  • Sadly in piles in my room. I have so many, but I haven't bought a bookshelf for them yet. My kids have bookshelves for their books.
