When to take child to er

my son is 7 months old and for the last 2 days his fever has been 103.5 and when giving medication it drops a little but not much usually to around 101 is the lowest that it drops... and with everything going around it just scares me. He is also cutting teeth but kids usually do not have that high of a fever with cutting teeth?!?!

  • You need to take a baby that young to the ER with a high fever. :( Does he have any flu symptoms? Usually they have low temps with teething...

  • I'd take a baby that young with a 102 fever. Good luck.

  • noo... he is diarrhea but he is just now getting 2 teeth coming through so i thought that it was just from that?!

  • Don't worry. If there are no other symptoms it's more than likely the teeth. My dd's always run a high (once it was evern 104 for a few hours) fever while cutting teeth. If there are ANY other signs, vomitting, lethargic, painful areas, then I'd take them in.
    Good luck!

  • Mine ran some high fevers and had minor diarrhea the last couple of days, and they're cutting some teeth (DS actually hit 103). We went to the doc, but nothing else was wrong. She agreed it was their teeth (damn teething...ugh!) Try alternating tylenol and motrin and a lukewarm bath. It worked for us.

  • Fevers that high are NOT from teething.

The fever comes down with Tylenol. Leave it alone! It's not supposed to go back to normal, it's usually only going to come down a degree or so with medication!

Why would you take a baby to the ER when it's not necessary where they could be exposed to even more diseases and illnesses? why would you come to a message board to ask instead of calling your pediatrician to ask a DOCTOR what should be done?!

  • first of all i did contact our doctor.... so u really dont need to be rude the answering service didnt seem as if they knew what they were talking about so i thought i would just ask other moms and thats the whole reason to why i didnt want to take him there!!
