  • They really didn't know until the fourth month. Which was good because it saved them the heartaches of knowing about early miscarraige. They used to blame lateness on many things and didn't keep track of their monthlies as closely as we do.

  • There are signs of pregnancy beyond a positive pregnancy test lol. First, there's the missed period that almost all women have. The woman's smell often changes, there's Chadwick's sign (when the cervix turns blueish), the uterus can be felt during a bimanual exam by about 8 weeks and through the belly by about 12. Most women have large amounts of creamy discharge during early pregnancy. The areolas darken in most women.

They probably didn't know as soon as we know now, but they definately knew lol.

  • Well, I'll tell ya. My first pregnancy sign, both times, was SORE NIPPLES! I swear a light draft made mine hurt. I knew I was pregnant before I ever missed my period( I was a little irregular though....not on birth control)

  • in the early 20th century doctors injected toads and mice with urine to determine whether someone was pregnant or not.not quite sure how they did it and why but it's definately true!
