What are ways to stop a 1 year old from biting?

  • Everytime my son bites i pop him in his mouth and tell him NO. He stopped. worked for me.

  • I did the bitting back. So if I was bit on the hand I would bit his hand (harder each time). Work great for me.

  • I used a holding time out with my sons. I'd say to them "no biting" then hold them in my lap facing away from me for one minute then repeat "no biting", give them a hug and kiss and move on.

    Distraction is still a great tool at that age so if you can see a bite coming, try to distract him. If he's biting because he's excited, say to him "no biting, give mommy a squeeze if you're excited".

    Consistency is key.
