I have been having trouble with hemmorhoids. What could be causing them?

Last night when I was in bed is when I had them. This was the second time in a month. I am 45 and just started menopause. My periods aren't coming around no more. Pain in my side and pubic area. I just got insured, so I may go to the dr. Also, have a history od stomach ulcers and had cysts on ovaries once. Could these be an issue, again or unrelated to hemorroid problem?
