Tips for giving a baby medicine?

My 10 month olf daughter has thrush and has to take Nystatin 3 times a day. I have to pin her down and put the syringe at the back of her mouth to get her to take ANY medications, even then most of it ends up on me. How can I get her to take this without tears and a big sticky mess??

  • Hmmmm Maybe take a medicine dropper and put some water in it. Then let her see you take your medicine.

  • Work the medicine into her mouth and then blow in her face and it will cause the swallowing reflex.

  • She doesn't take bottles, paci's, or sippy's.

I've tried blowing in her face but she just blows back!

  • Restrain her down, squirt the medicine slowly in small amounts in the back of her mouth and then hold her nose and mouth shut... She will swallow and won't be able to spit it out.

  • LMAO I am not going to smother my baby to get her to take medication.

Thank you justluvinmyson, I'll try the water thing.

  • i stick my finger in my DS's mouth, let him "trust/ suck" on it for a bit, then i stick the syringe in. i usually don't give it all at once, but sounds like with her you would have to.

  • With Nystatin it's not going to help to make her swallow it... it's not like an antibiotic. So it's fine if you squirt it in her mouth and she spits it out... if she were older that is what she would do... swish and spit.

  • Even if it's in her throat? It's all over her tonsils.
