What to give an 8 month old for a cold?

He has a runny nose(clear) and has been coughing and sneezing. Would you call the doctor or get something over the counter?

  • the doctor wont do much for a cold. you can do home remedies! for the stuffy nose use a bulb syringe to help flush out the mucous. you can also use saline drops. expect your son to fight you! most babies hate both lol. Invest in a cool mist humidifier. if you cant, steaming up your bathroom with a hot shower is just as effective. if he sleeps in a crib, you can elevate the mattress on one end with a folded towel or blanket. if he is really congested, you can get childrens vicks vapor rub and apply a small amt to his feet, if you nurse apply a small amt to your chest. but any medicine is last resort. if he has a high fever you can use a half eye dropper of childrens tyenol.

  • There are no medications OTC for an infant. He has a cold. You just do what you always do for a cold, that's all.

If a fever develops, then give the doctor a call.

  • You can use a cool mist humidifier and a bulb syringe or nasal saline for the nose. No Vicks or OTC meds for an infant. Doctors can't do anything for a cold.
