offended when not smile returned

anyone else get offended or a little hurt when you smile at someone, stranger or not, and they dont smile back? I can understand if they are having a bad day or the smile through them off, but I smile a lot.

  • Some people smile back. Some people look at me like I'm crazy. That just makes me laugh and smile more at random people.

It reminds me of the movie "Elf" where Buddy says, "I love smiling. Smiling's my favorite." He may be on to something there.

  • LOL... I get that all the time. I smile or say hi to EVERYONE when I run. Even when im on a hill. but some simply dont smile back. I understand being out of breath but a smile really isnt that hard no matter how hard you are working out.

I just figure they arent enjoying life as much as I am and feel bad for them.

  • I don't usually feel offended, just sad for them.

  • Don't feel bad for me. I never smile at people. I enjoy life. I just do not think I need to have a smile plastered on my face to enjoy life and be happy.

I think people who smile all the time have hidden depression. Like the people you hear on the new that commet suiside. People say about them " He/she was always happy, nice and friendly".

  • I smile at people all the time too. My Grammy nicknamed me "Smiley Face" when I was little. I'm just a smiley person, although I'd prolly be crying running uphill. lol (big boobages)
I've even had people ask me "Why do you smile all the time?"
My answer is "What is there NOT to smile about? Life is good. I'm happy."
I'll probably have huge laugh lines when I get old, but who cares. At least I got them being happy and not hash marks between my eyebrows.

  • Oops, forgot to answer the question. People usually smile back, and if not I figure they have a lot to be sad about, or maybe they just have the Eeyore personality.

  • Wow, people who smile alot are depressed? If that's true I must be on the verge of suicide! I smile at everyone. When my friend go for walks and there are other people on the path, they usually smile and say hello and I smile and say hello back. It's called being friendly. Unless someone pissed me off and they smiled at me, then they would get the look of death!
