  • mine wanted to feed themselves around 9-10 months.

yeah it will be messy but its a learning process.

give her a fork and a spoon but still try to sneak food in there as she's feeding herself.

get a big plastic mat for under the chair.

  • my daughter stated feeding herself with a spoon at about nine months then fork at a year old. It was very messy at first the floor got way more food on it than she did in her mouth, but she picked it up pretty quickly ( it actually is a lot less messy than her squeshing everything with her fingers though.)

  • Mine can eat well with a spoon at 15 mos and we are working on the fork. She is just being able to eat solids with out regurgitation in the middle of eating. So this has been a longer process for us than most families. I am hoping by Christmas that she can use a fork well.

  • My son showed interest in a spoon around 9 months. He's 2 and uses both a fork and spoon well, but will occasionally pick food up with his hands. He gets really annoyed when he's not given a fork and spoon and will request them.

  • My son thought spoons and forks were drum sticks for the longest time. He still would rather use his fingers 50% of the time... but at about 14 months is when he really started to get the hang of it. He just turned 16 months and is dong well with both the spoon and fork.

  • We did a fork at 11 months and spoon at about 18 months. (it's easier to stab food than to scoop it with a spoon)
