  • Thats an interesting thought. I'm not a vegetarian, but I can imagine that while their main dish would probably consist of tofu, veggies, rice (or some other carb) their side dishes would probably be no different from what anyone else would make.

  • The vegetarians that I know, eat main dishes too they just don't contain meat. A main dish can be pasta, soups, vegeterian stews, fish, etc. The sides would be just like anyother side.

  • My friend's sister is a vegetarian and she makes cheese enchiladas with chips and homemade salsa, portobello burgers with sides of grilled asparagus and baked potatoes, sushi, soups with breads, lots of stuff with tofu, and also she uses those Morningstar farms Crumbles (like ground beef but vegetarian) to make almost anything you would use ground beef for, which she then serves with normal side dishes.

  • I am a fairly lazy cook. We eat lots of one pot/one dish meals. When we have sandwiches, like sloppy joes, I make a big salad or a pot of soup to go with it. Here are some of our recent dinner menus; send me a message offlist if you would like any of the recipes:
    Week of 11/15
    Sunday – lentil sloppy joes
    Monday – peanut noodles
Tuesday – sweet potato and black bean burritos
    Wednesday – stir fry
    Thursday – breakfast
Friday – home made pizza from the freezer
Saturday – lentil soup and grilled cheese sandwiches
    Week of 11/8
    Sunday – Mediterranean stew
    Monday – mushroom stroganoff
    Tuesday – lentil tacos
    Wednesday – stir fry
    Thursday – s/w falafel
    Friday – zucchini enchiladas
Saturday –tofu fish sticks, not crab cakes, sweet potato fries
    Week of 11/1
    Sunday – chili

  • tyfry - vegetarians don't eat fish. Just wanted to clarify because it's awkward for all concerned when someone makes a fish dish for a vegetarian.

I tend to do a lot of things like pasta, curries, soups, and stews. Even as an omni I mostly cooked like that, I very rarely did the meat, potatoes, veggies thing. Once in a while I'll do something like a baked tofu or stuffed seitan with potatoes and a couple of veggies but that's more hassle.
