I was wondering at what age can a baby sleep on their stomaches?

Doctors and everyone always say that babys can nap on their stomaches and thats fine. I was just wondering at what age you can put them to sleep at night on their stomaches without the risk of SIDS being an issue anymore. My son loves sleeping on his stomache more then his back so its a fight at night to keep him alseep on his back. He wakes up alot more on his back then on his stomache. So what age did you guys let your little ones sleep on their stomaches if they wanted to? My son is seven months old.

  • my doctor said the risk time for SIDS is usually 3-6 months, so you're little one should be in the clear :) but you might want to check with your doc to be sure

  • 3 of my 4 children slept on their stomach starting around 6-8 weeks old. My oldest didn't sleep on her stomach until she was much older and she was a horrible sleeper. My 2 month old sleeps on his stomach and he sleeps 6-7 hours a night.

  • It's usually fine when they can roll over on their own. Mine would start off on their back and roll to their stomach and sleep.

  • My son slept on his stomach from day 1... It's the only way he would sleep.

  • Honestly, my 4 month old daughter has slept on her tummy from the time she was probably a week old. I tried at first putting her on her back, but she spit up a lot and I had woken up a couple of times in the night to her choking on her vomit. I said forget it and have been putting her on her tummy since then. She sleeps all night too...

  • My son started sleepin on his stomach around 7 1/2 or 8 weeks, i was comfortable letting him sleep on his stomach because he turns his head very well, and he sleeps at least 5 or 6 hours

  • my first slept on his tummy from about 1 week on.. on his back he would jsut flinch and freak out.... the rest usually started to sleep on their tummies when they could roll over themselves.

  • I've always put mine on their backs and once they could roll on their own I let them sleep how ever they wanted to.

  • I have been putting my son to bed on his tummy since he was 7 weeks old (now 3 months). He doesn't sleep well on his back. And I don't worry to much about SIDS now cause he is able to roll over on his side when he wakes up.

Some babies like to get up on their knees to have their bottom in the air. I know mine does. LOL
