  • Well, a Cardinal (as well as a pope) are actually just Bishops with a special title and some extra responsiblities. Most cardinals are in charge of larger dioceses or contries/regions. Some Cardinals work at the Vatican and are heads of specific offices. All cardinals in the world are part of the College of Cardinals which is sort of like the cabinet to the President. So in addition to their general responsibilites of running a diocese/region/office they also meet with the pope and advice him, serve/run various committees, and when the pope dies they elect the next pope.
