Breast milk to cereal?

Ok so DS pedi said I can start cereal. But I forgot to ask her if his tummy can take it since he has had nothing but breast milk. I don't know if I should start formula and than do cereal. But I would love to keep him on breast milk. Did you go straight to cereal? Or did you have to do formula first?

Oh BTW he is 7 months old.

  • No, you do not need to introduce formula. In fact, you don't even NEED to use infant cereal if you don't want to. Mashed bananas and other foods are great starter solids. It's just my opinion that the infant cereals = yuck.

  • u never have to use formula. u can mix the cereal with breastmilk, juice, or water. Here is a great link on the breastfeed baby and solids.

personaly we never did cereal. Baby's first food was avacado mixed w/ breastmilk

  • Why would you use formula? Theres no need to use formula to make cereal or perdio if you are breastfeeding. Use water or breastmilk to make cereal. BUT cereal really isn't needed, your child can get better nutrients from sweet potato, banana, or avacado and they are just as mild allergy wise.

  • I just asked my mil the same question. I am about to start cereal as well and we have only breastfed thus far. My mil said that she just used water. So I will either do that or use what breast milk I have pumped.
