  • if you get an answer, let me know! my son will be 8 mo on the 13th, he does this "swimmy" thing across the carpet to get where he needs to go. he uses both elbows to pull himself army-style, while kicking off with his toes like he's doing the butterfly stroke across the floor. Hes gotten pretty fast, so I dont think he'll try to do anything else. I'm mostly worried that he's not sitting without support yet.... he will for a few seconds then fall over... its weird.

  • My son started crawling BACKwards when he was about 11 months old. He never crawled forward. He rolled around a lot to get where he wanted to go. He would get himself stuck underneath the bed or the crib and couldn't figure out how to go forward. He's almost 19 years old now, and his very coordinated, so he turned out okay.

  • Crawling is not a developmental milestone and many babies never crawl.

  • Keep at it with the tummy time. It is VERY important for the brain development to crawl. The normal age to learn to crawl is anywhere between 5-12 months, I would say. Babies are very different. Just keep up the good work, and hopefully he will learn. If you are not already doing that, try to lay on the floor with him and sing, read books, talk...whatever, to keep him occupied. Good Luck.

  • Crawling has nothing to do with brain development! How archaic a concept.

  • My dd crawled at 8 months. walked at 11...crawling is not a milestone. Some babies never do it. and you don't have to force tummy time..if they don't like it, don't do it. tummy time can also be just laying the baby on your chest.
