Pumpkin pie real or canned?

With all the pumpkin pie questions lately i thought this would be a fun one.

So do you use real pumpkin that you cooked or canned pumpkin when making your pie? I personally only use real, I tried it about 10 years ago to save money and recycle a halloween pumpkin that never got carved and it turned out amazing. I didnt even like pumpkin pie before i made it this way. Now my family would freak if I didnt bake pumpkins each year after halloween to make pies for Thanksgiving. I also freeze the cooked pumpkin to use for christmas.

  • I use canned pumpkin but the straight pumpkin - not pie filling. I season it and all myself.

  • canned pumpkin. "real" pumpkin is too stringy for my taste.

  • Ok so the pumpkins you purchase for carving are in fact different than pumpkins for cooking. They are less stringy and more pulpy. We do both at our house. Love pumpkin any way we can get it. lol
